South Africa - Safari
South Africa has currently 21 national parks. Including savannah parks, parks with forests and grasslands; arid semi-desert parks, coastal parks, and floral kingdom parks. While large African game is a feature of many of the parks, others are more focused on aquatic eco-systems, vegetation, cultural or scenic landscape. Big 5 safaris in South Africa are a must-do for anyone fascinated by wildlife. The Big 5 are: buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard and rhino – We would suggest however there are 6 and take into account the whale. Now the thrill comes from photographing them in their natural habitat. For the intending visitor we give the following regions for the main game reserves areas for you to choose from:
- Limpopo and the Waterberg; In the north of the country adjacent to the Kruger Park
- Kruger National Park; The world-renowned Kruger National Park of over 2million hectares offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. In the last 2 decades most of the fences have been removed between the private reserves and South Africa's Kruger National Park, allowing game to roam freely back and forth.
- Madikwe National Park: 3 ½ hour's drive from of Johannesburg. The well known resort of Sun City and Pilanesberg can be an attractive stopover. Malaria free.
- Kwa Zulu: Where there are several parks both national and private concessions.
- The Eastern Cape Parks: including Addo Elephant Park and several excellent private parks to suit all budgets and recommended when visiting the Garden Route and the south of the country including Cape Town. Malaria free.
